Madison has nothing but heart eyes for cheese, beer, and bikes. But today, we’re talking about a specific kind of love.

Knowing your love language can help you prepare for the most romantic day of the year (we’re looking at you, Valentine’s Day). Here are our recommendations for activities + places around Madison based on your love language.

Don’t know your love language? Take this quiz to find out what you value in a relationship.

Physical Touch

If you like nothing more than a good hug from a loved one or cuddling on the couch with a glass of wine, we suggest taking a class at Dongzhu Pottery Studio.

Acts of Service

If the way you express your love is by doing helpful things for others (think: cleaning with the dishes, opening doors, or running errands), we suggest a volunteering date to satisfy that giving heart. You can check out our roundup of local organizations for all kinds of opportunities to lend a helping hand.

Receiving Gifts

If you think of gifts as a symbol of love and affection, you’re in luck. There’s no shortage when it comes to shopping in Madtown. Pick out something for the artisan lover at Hazel General Store, hunt for a vintage treasure at Willy Street Treasure Shop, or support your diehard local with 608 swag from 6AMShop.

Quality Time

If you like to express affection through a display of your undivided attention, we recommend a stroll through MMoCA, along the Lakeshore Path, or around Olbrich Botanical Gardens.

Words of Affirmation

If you are someone that loves verbal or written compliments that express appreciation, hear the poets at the Bur Oak’s open mic night and take notes, or pick out some stationary at Anthology to pen a thoughtful letter.
