Inside our weekly business newsletter, BizBrief, with CEO and Co-Founder Ryan Johnston

We asked 6AM City’s CEO and co-founder a few questions about what makes our new weekly business newsletter tick — plus, keep reading for the local podcasts he’s listening to and places to get caffeinated.

If you already read our daily product, think of BizBrief as its weekly, business-focused companion.

We sat down with our CEO, Ryan Johnston, for a behind-the-scenes look at what fuels BizBrief — and him.

BizBrief is your weekly download on the local business landscape, delivering short, business-minded recaps — from news and podcasts to events, jobs, and company updates — all in one scroll-worthy newsletter to help you start the week informed, not overwhelmed.

Psst... before you dive in, want to hear from you — take our quick survey and let us know what you’d like to see, from podcasts and business stories to company updates, jobs, real estate listings, and more.

Why introduce a business newsletter?

I think of it less as a newsletter and more as a weekly business section.

What problem does your product solve?

Talking about business together | Our daily newsletter has proven product-market fit, and along the way, we’ve honed our core value proposition: delivering everything you need to make the most of the city you call home. We source from traditional media, influencers, and companies — creating a community engaging with the news together.

Like MKTtoday, BizBrief will center on strong reader and company participation, including press releases, thought leadership, polls, podcasts, job and commercial real estate listings, M&A activity, profiles, stats, and more.

How will BizBrief differ from all the other local business newsletters?

Aggregation | BizBrief will follow the same formula — aggregating, curating, narrating, and highlighting the most important business news from across the local business landscape. The goal: to help local businesses and the professionals who work in them thrive.

Who will read BizBrief, and how does it fit with MKTtoday?

Built-in audience | While MKTtoday is lifestyle-first, these readers are also business professionals, with 44% reporting that they are decision-makers. BizBrief will be an additive to our current MKTtoday audience, giving readers flexibility: they can opt out of BizBrief and keep MKTtoday, or subscribe solely to BizBrief if they prefer.

What makes BizBrief unique and different for our readers?

Most business publications only share their own content, usually in a traditional format — just a headline — to drive readers back to their websites. This fragmented approach makes it harder for professionals to stay on top of local business news and events.

Events | Our survey shows most people discover business events on social media — but not all busy business professionals check social channels frequently enough to catch these opportunities. BizBrief brings local business events together in one place, helping you stay informed and connect in real life.
