While only 10 miles away from the heart of Madison's isthmus, visiting Epic can feel like traveling to a faraway land.

Founded in 1979, Epic is a software company best known for developing MyChart. Its 1,100-acre headquarters is located in Verona. The company's unique approach to designing its offices has drawn attention from the likes of the New York Times.

Intrigued? You can check it out for yourself. The headquarters is open for self-guided tours and is currently in the process of expanding.

Self-guided tours

Weekends | 10 a.m.-3 p.m. | This campus map includes driving directions for your journey to Epic.

Weekdays | 2:30-5 p.m. | To be mindful of employees, groups larger than seven are not permitted during the week.

Pro tip: Prepare to walk. We toured three of the headquarters' campuses in four hours (and walked 14,000 steps).

Current campuses:

Central Park | Each building — Heaven, Isis, Juno, and Kohoutek — adheres to a celestial theme. You'll encounter a slide instead of stairs, a dragon's lair, and funhouse mirrors.

Farm | This campus boasts a giant red barn office building, and its name is earned with the inclusion of a fully functioning farm.

Prairie | Home to some of Epic's very first buildings, this is where you'll start your journey. Once parked, head past Humpty Dumpty to find yourself in Andromeda, where the visitor's desk awaits you.

Storybook | All of your favorite childhood tales come to life in this area of Epic. Think: "Alice in Wonderland," "The Wizard of Oz," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and Jules Verne classics.

Wizards Academy | "Harry Potter" fans can live out their wizarding fantasies in the Dementor tunnel, the observatory, and the Great Hall (keep an eye out for pictures that come to life).

Coming soon

Epic is currently constructing its sixth campus, Other Worlds, inspired by “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Chronicles of Narnia.” The campus will feature:

Azland, with a giant wardrobe entrance to a lion king’s realm
Elvendell, a valley-themed building showcasing elven craftsmanship
Floating Forest, a glass-walled building with trees.

Epic's new addition will take inspiration from "Lord of the Rings." | Rendering via Epic

Additionally, Underhill, an underground cafeteria, and Black Hole, an underground parking structure, are planned. The buildings should be ready by early 2026.
