Ice ice, baby. The Seattle Kraken will play their first home game on Saturday at brand new Climate Pledge Arena, a significant milestone for the NHL expansion team. 🏒

The Kraken have a 1-3-1 record, so the Oct. 23 contest against the Vancouver Canucks is crucial for early season momentum.

But it also marks a special moment for the city, which welcomes its newest pro sports team and its first franchise to compete for the Stanley Cup since the Seattle Metropolitans disbanded in 1924.

Here’s all you need to know to “get Kraken” on celebrating.

Seattle’s hockey history

1917: The Metropolitans of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association become the first U.S. team to win the Stanley Cup. 🏆
1975: The Totems of the Western Hockey League dissolve after more than three decades.
2018: The NHL votes to expand to Seattle.
2020: The Kraken release their mythical name. 🐙
2021: Seattle hires its first head coach Dave Hakstol in June, then fills its roster via the expansion draft a month later.

Sound smart: “It’s been a century since Seattle won the Cup, but the Golden Knights made the Finals in 2018 as an expansion team, so never say never.”

Players to name drop at parties

Philipp Grubauer: The Kraken’s star goalie 🥅
Mark Giordano: Veteran team captain, tough defenseman
Brandon Tanev: A top scorer so far, with an intense stare 👀
Yanni Gourde: Big-time offensive weapon, who recently came back from injury

Sound smart: “Man, it’s been a tough start, but the Kraken show promise and will really start to roll now that Gourde has suited up.”
