It’s grad season, Richmond. Whether you’re celebrating a scholar or just want to make it to brunch on time, we’ve put together a guide on when ceremonies are happening + how to avoid possible congestion.

🐾 Virginia Union University

When: Sat., May 7 at 10 a.m.

Where: Hovey Field

In addition to the main ceremony, individual school celebrations for graduating Panthers will take place tomorrow. Those start at 1 p.m. in different locations, so be on the lookout for migrating grads + guests if you’re traveling near Lombardy Street.

🕷 University of Richmond

When: Sun., May 8 at 2 p.m.

Where: Robins Center

Since UR is located in a more residential area, major traffic flows will likely not be as impacted. However, if you’re planning on stopping by The Village or the Shops at Libbie and Grove, expect a lot of foot traffic + full restaurants.

🐏 Virginia Commonwealth University

When: Sat., May 14 at 10 a.m.

Where: Greater Richmond Convention Center

This is the big one — but you have time to prepare. Expect delays around City Center throughout most of next Saturday. Since seating will be first-come, first-served, VCU is warning guests to get to the ceremonies early and be ready to park and walk. Third + Fifth Streets at Marshall Street may be particularly congested.

Plus, the Broad Street Repaving Project is also in full swing, so be aware of delays from Hamilton to Third Street. Lane markings have not yet been painted in the freshly-paved road, so out-of-town drivers may slow traffic in that area. See up-to-date detour information from GRTC.
