Every week in October, we're highlighting a getaway from Greenville that doesn't require those pesky 20-minute flights to Charlotte or Atlanta. Dust off your cowboy boots, because we're headed to...

Fort Worth, TX (DFW)

Avg. flight cost: $450-$610
Flight time: ~2 hours and 45 minutes

Eat: Joe T. Garcia’s. Though locals argue it’s overrated, Joe T.’s is certainly one of the most famous restaurants in FTW. Dozens of celebrities have walked through its doors since it opened in 1935. The atmosphere and the vibes alone make this a hot spot. Bring cash.

See: The Fort Worth Stockyards. What better way to experience Cowtown? For my colleague at FTWtoday, Elizabeth, this is her favorite place in Fort Worth because there’s so much to do and see. You can spend a whole day here and meet visitors from all over the world. Don’t miss the daily cattle drives at 11:30 a.m. + 4 p.m.

Do: Free line dance lessons. To get the true taste of Fort Worth, check out the world's largest honky-tonk. Yes – the world’s largest. Free dance lessons occur five times a week. Don’t forget to take home a very special souvenir by getting your picture taken on the photo bull.

Stay: Hotel Drover — the back porch of the Fort Worth Stockyards. To experience true Western hospitality, book your stay here. Enjoy brunch at 97 West and then peruse the Western-inspired boutiques. Grab a drink at the bar and then head out to the patio for live music.

“We aren’t Dallas. As one of the fastest-growing cities in the US, Fort Worth is bursting with activity and culture. We like to call it ‘a big city that feels like a small town.’ Yes, we have the Stockyards, but that’s not all. Our Cultural District is growing, and places like Sundance Square, Clearfork, or Fairmount are bustling with energy.” — FTWtoday Editor Elizabeth
