Have you ever heard the story of Franklinville, NC’s famous Faith Rock?

It begins in 1781, when Patriot soldier Andrew Hunter was captured by the ruthless Col. David Fanning.

Hunter saved himself by stealing Fanning’s favorite horse, Bay Doe, and riding to safety. But in 1782, the Colonel returned for his steed and found Hunter living in Franklinville.

🐴 An epic chase ensued — ending on Faith Rock

Cornered, out of options, Hunter escaped capture (and likely his execution) with a daring maneuver: Jumping Bae Doe from Faith Rock directly into the Deep River, from a slope of nearly 60 degrees.

Hunter survived the jump and the Revolutionary War, eventually returning home to Franklinville, where his story spread.

Over time, Faith Rock became a symbol of courage, faith, and American perseverance.
