Juneteenth is on Sun., June 19 where the local community + the rest of the country commemorate when a group of enslaved people learned they were free from slavery in 1865. That historic day led to the first-ever Juneteenth in 1866 with food, singing, and spiritual readings where those who were there took pride in their progress.

While the original Juneteenth took place in Galveston, Texas, it’s now recognized nationwide, including in CBUS. To help you get involved this year, we’re highlighting local nonprofits and social justice organizations hosting events that commemorate Juneteenth.
