Every year, my husband and I head to the NC State Fair on opening day — fun fact: it’s the least attended day — with a clear lineup in mind (don't fix what ain't broke, amiright?). Someday, I'll try a few new spots, but for now, here's where you'll find me year after year:

Agri Supply Exposition Center | I love seeing which pumpkin and watermelon take home the grand prize and checking in on the animals (especially the piglets + chicks).
Big Wheel | This is our only ride, and we pick the tallest one each year. This year, we rode the 230-foot America 250 Wheel for $7 each and caught sunset views over Dorton Arena and the fairgrounds.
Hot Chix Hotcakes and Chicken Fair Stand | We split the Twisted Chicken Tots with white cheddar mac and cheese, crispy chicken, sauce (we opt for sweet red chili), and, of course, tots.
North Carolina Stillhouse | The Heritage Circle area is my husband's favorite. He capped off our visit with a pumpkin Old Fashioned made with NC spirits, while I grabbed a lemonade from a nearby vendor.
Peachy's Baking Co. | The wait is worth it for fresh donuts from this family-owned bakeshop.
