The first day of school is fast approaching, but Asheville kiddos aren't the only ones who can learn something new this fall. Consider these adult-friendly options for staying curious beyond the classroom.

Nerd Nite

The second Thursday of each month, Asheville's nerds organize at RAD Brewing Co. for 20-minute presentations on niche topics. Think: deciphering dead languages, the pitfalls of the Dewey Decimal system, and lots of "Star Trek" references. Tomorrow is the three-year anniversary show. Be there and be square.

Study Hall

The first Tuesday of each month, pull up a seat at Oak & Grist for a 45-minute talk from a local expert, followed by Q+A. Previous subjects include the importance of side quests, Appalachian gardening, and how to lead an orchestra.

Hike with a Historian

If sitting still has never been your strong suit, this Asheville Museum of History program is perfect for you. An expert leads guided tours across WNC, letting you explore history right where it happened.

TEDxAsheville

The organization hosts events year-round, from its annual main speaker event to the three yearly Red Rug Roundtable salons.
