Derby City is one of six cities in the running to become the new home of the Sundance Film Festival, which has been held in Park City, Utah since it began in 1985. Here's the short list:

Home sweet home — Louisville, KY
Park City and Salt Lake City, UT
Atlanta, GA
Boulder, CO
Cincinnati, OH
Santa Fe, NM

Mayor Greenberg announced Louisville got the callback in a video on social media, citing the city's history of hosting big events like the Kentucky Derby and Bourbon and Beyond.

Sundance started looking for alternative venues earlier this year, as its current contract with Park City, Utah is set to expire in 2027. Members of the Sundance Institute will pay a visit to LOU in the next few weeks to evaluate its infrastructure, ethos, and equity values.

The annual 10-day festival drew 86,824 film industry professionals + movie buffs to Park City last year — that's about half a Kentucky Derby crowd.
