Butchertown is home to 10+ eateries and bars, one of the nation’s best skate parks, and quirky stores. Get a full slice of what the neighborhood has to offer with our Guide to Butchertown.
The street names in Butchertown have a presidential flair. Fun fact: Neighborhood bowling alley Vernon Lanes was named for Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington?
Another reason that Butchertown really shines brightly: Thomas Edison once lived there. The inventor of the light bulb called Washington Street home when he was a teenage telegrapher for Western Union.
As the name implies, the neighborhood was historically home to Louisville's meatpacking industry. Now, Louisville's best pizza crust is a resident.
