This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the Woodland Art Fair, which will bring ~75,000 people to Woodland Park to enjoy the work of 180+ artists and craftspeople 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.

At a news conference in the park, artist Sara Turner of Cricket Press joked that as she turns 50 this year, it means she's been attending the fair her entire life.

"It showed a young girl that you could make a life in the arts," said Turner.

(We'll be previewing Cricket Press + a few other artists' offerings for you this week.)

The art fair is a joint project between the city's Parks and Recreation department and the Lexington Art League. Volunteers are still needed to help with the event according to the league's executive director Lori Houlihan.

Psst— visitors can get a $50 day pass for Saturday to the nearby Camel Club for the first time this year. The proceeds go to the art league + each comes with a free drink ticket. It strikes us as the perfect excuse to check out the usually private club (pro tip: order some wine).

If you don't want to spring for a pass, but do want to duck into some air conditioning and do some extra shopping then we recommend any of these nearby shops: Poppy + Pomelo, Emporium, Black Swan Books, or The Black Market.

Last but not least, check out the music schedule to see when local faves like Lylak and Zoe Speaks are playing.
