This Thursday, Indiana’s largest + longest-running film festival will celebrate 30 years in the biz. To celebrate, they’re hosting a festival to end all festivals — happening all over Indy.

Heartland Film Festival is pulling out all the stops this year by “rewinding” through the past 3 decades of film in addition to “pressing play” on this year’s lineup. We’re talking major 1990s vibes — VHS tapes + all. They’ll even be screening “West Side Story” on 35 mm, which was shown at their very first festival.

You’ll find several of the movies have Hoosier roots, such as “Mayor Pete” + a film about the first Black students at the University of Evansville. But don’t be fooled by the festival’s local feel — it will also include 10 international premieres and 9 national premieres.

This year, they’re showing nearly 130 films at various movie theaters in the city, including several with some Oscar buzz. (We’re looking at you, “Spencer” + “The French Dispatch.”) Screenings will be both in-person and virtual, so whether you’re ready to hit the town or would rather relax on the couch, they have you covered.

Here are some of Heartland’s greatest accomplishments over the years, by the numbers:

🎬 Presented $3.5 million in cash prizes

🎬 Grown from a 4-day event to an 11-day international film festival

🎬 Screened 8 Oscar-winning titles

🎬 Showcased 2,000+ feature and short films

🎬 Presented over 200 studio films with the Truly Moving Picture Award

Whether you’re a film buff or a film bluff, you won’t want to miss this.
