Just like a scarecrow, these U-pick farms are outstanding in their field. Take a trip just outside Lakeland to get your fill of sweet, seasonal produce.

Fancy Farms, Plant City
There's just one day on the books for strawberry picking here: Saturday, Feb. 22. Visit the farm (just two miles away from the Lakeland market) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $3 containers. Proceeds will benefit 4-H programs.

Ridge Island Groves, Haines City
The citrus industry is alive and well at this grove where you can still pick oranges — plus sweet, seedless pineapple-oranges. Visit Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. to take your pick, and don't forget to grab a jug of orange juice to bring home.

February is strawberry U-pick season here, but you can also harvest sunflowers and winter vegetables. Fields are open on select days throughout the month, and the Kid Zone is open on weekends with plenty of family attractions.
