Tell your furry friends — Seattle Parks and Rec is getting ready to build two new off-leash areas for local pups. One is slated for Othello Park and the next is gearing up for West Seattle.

Determined by the results of an Off-Leash Area Expansion Study, these two sites were deemed suitable spots for pups to roam wild and free (an ever-increasing demand as the local pup population climbs).

The Othello Park location has been mapped out to cover ~12,000 sqft in the south end of the park, with the West Seattle Stadium location pegged to be slightly larger at ~16,000 sqft in a currently wooded area.

Have some feedback about the current designs? Parks and Rec is hosting two community engagement events:

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 4-6 p.m. — West Seattle Stadium
Thursday, Oct. 24, 4-6 p.m. — Othello Playground (the southwest corner of the park)

The current timeline aims to complete designs by spring 2025, start construction by spring 2026, and wrap up in fall 2026.

In addition, Parks and Rec is looking to add a third space at Ravenna Park at a later date — current funds support its design, but the department still needs to secure funding for its actual development.

The View Ridge Playfield, Powell Barnett Park, Discovery Park, and Lincoln Park were nominated as potential construction sites during the Off-Leash Area Expansion Study, but were eventually nixed during community feedback.
