Redmond’s esteemed 30-year-old brewing company Mac & Jack’s has been sold to Seattle-based beverage company Ackley Brands.

You’ve likely seen Mac & Jack’s beer around the PNW at many retail stores and bars, though its distribution has grown as far as Hawaii and Alaska over the years. The brewery’s African Amber is perhaps its best-known offering.

Ackley is a local, family-owned company that purchased four wine brands and tasting rooms in the PNW, including the Montinore Estate and Landlines Estates tasting room in Woodinville. Mac & Jack’s is Ackley’s first brewery acquisition.

Though the deal is still hop-level fresh, there are no signs of major changes coming to Mac & Jack’s. Ackley will keep the business and brand going as Mac & Jack's founders Mac Rankin and Jack Schropp plan their retirement. Both will still retain leadership roles during the transition and the beers will be brewed by the same team.

A couple of things to look for coming up:

Mac & Jack’s Redmond headquarters may move soon, with hopes on doubling production capacity.
Ackley’s forthcoming wine bar the Cove at the Lake Union Piers, aims to open in 2024 with a selection of wines and Mac & Jack’s beers.
