Ahhhh. The birds are chirping, the grocery store seasonal aisles are covered in all sorts of chocolates, and Pike Place Market is slowly filling up with bouquets of tulips — it’s almost Valentine’s Day.

To help you prepare for one of the most romantic days of the year (whether you have a honey bunny or not), we want to talk about love languages.

In case you’re not familiar with them, love languages are the different ways people generally like to give and receive love. If Seattle had a love language, it might be avoiding eye contact, warning newcomers about the Big Dark, or banding together to make fun of Portland.

Everyone has them, and understanding yours will make it easier to know what you might need in a relationship — even if that’s just with yourself.

Don’t know your love language? Take this quiz to find out what you value.

💞 Physical touch

If you like nothing more than a good hug from a loved one or holding hands while you walk down the street, taking a class at Salsa Con Todo should give you your fix with five different styles of dance classes to choose from.

🤝Acts of service

If the way you express your love is by doing helpful things for others, we suggest a volunteering date to satisfy that giving heart. You can check out Seattle Credit Union’s List of 52 Places to Volunteer for all kinds of opportunities to lend a helping hand.

🎁Receiving gifts

If you think of gifts as symbolic of love and affection, you’re in luck with all the shopping options in Seattle. Pick out something for the artisan lover at The Handmade Showroom, hunt for a vintage treasure at Seattle Antiques Market, or support your diehard local with SEAtoday swag from our shop.

⏰Quality time

If you like to express affection through a display of your undivided attention, we recommend a stroll through the Museums of Museums’s brand new exhibits, Interlaken Park’s trail, the Woodland Park Rose Garden.

📝Words of affirmation

If you are someone that loves passionate communication, hear the poets at the Fremont Abbey Arts Open Mic Night and take notes, or pick out some Grapheme stationery to pen a thoughtful letter.
