Grab your binoculars and lace up your sneakers. Tuckahoe Creek Park is expanding with a new boardwalk and increased wetland access. The expansion follows a donation of approximately 21 acres from The Wilton Companies, an 80-year-old real estate agency that has donated 250+ acres to Henrico County over the years.

Henrico officials and the CEO of The Wilton Companies announced the news on Monday, backed by the grassy scenery and well-timed flying geese of Tuckahoe Creek Park.

To save you some time, we narrowed down the project details.

The proposed boardwalk will follow Tuckahoe Creek for optimal wildlife observation and water access. | Map provided by Henrico County (view expanded preview)

What to expect:

An additional boardwalk and trailhead named “Wilton Landing”
A new fishing pier + multiple wetland overlooks and kayak/paddle launch areas
Educational landmarks memorializing the industrial history of coal mining and railroad work in the area
A private trail connecting to Lakewood Retirement Community (which donated an additional nine acres to the project)
A new shelter and parking area off Westbriar Drive, replacing Tuckahoe Village Recreation Association's pool and tennis courts, which closed after a poolhouse fire in 2021
Bookending trail access from the new parking lot and a pedestrian entryway at Lauderdale Drive
