Sun’s out, buns out — hot dog buns, that is. From community grillouts to baseball game brats, summer really is the season of the hot dog. That’s why we’ve rounded up six local spots to get your frank fix.

Chicago Hot Dogs, 12914 Jones Maltsberger Rd.

Just east of McAllister Park, this hot dog spot serves up traditional Chicago-styled franks seven days a week.

Pro tip: Order the #7 and build your own hot dog.

The Dogfather, 6211 San Pedro Ave.

Revenge is a dish that tastes best when served between two buns at this restaurant themed after “The Godfather.”

Pro tip: Here’s an offer you can't refuse — vegan options for everyone in the family.

Fat Boy Burgers & Dogs, 2345 Vance Jackson Rd.

From burgers to ice cream, this spot is great for cooling down on a hot summer day.

Pro tip: The restaurant features kosher-friendly franks.

The HotDogOlogist, 114 N. Ellison Dr. #106

This spot is bringing New York-style hot dogs to the Alamo City with a Texas twist.

Pro tip: Can’t go wrong with the 210 Dog or the Fiesta Dog.

El Chunky, Multiple locations

With self proclaimed chunkiest franks in town, this restaurant serves up 9-inch hot dogs with classic toppings and Mexican flavors.

Pro tip: Visit the new brick + mortar location or grab a dog at their food truck at El Camino.

SA Missions, Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium

Grab a frank + a $2 beer all while supporting our local baseball team on $2 Tuesdays.

Pro tip: Head to the team's website for ticket options and other promotions.

If you’re more of the cookout type, don’t forget to invite us to the neighborhood barbecue + stock up on these essentials before firing up the grill.
