Say hello (again) to Fiesta's music festival back from the 1980s + 1990s. That's right, we're talking about La Semana Alegre. Before we can dig into this concert-sized announcement, let's take a look at some history about the event.

The beginning

Starting in the mid 1970s and running through 1995, La Semana Alegre (Spanish for "the happy week") was Fiesta's music festival, seeing stars like the late American musician Stevie Ray Vaughan perform in 1990.

The event brought South Texas music lovers together and became a local tradition. Fun fact: City Editor Nicholas' parents still have their ticket stubs for when they went back in 1988.

The present

La Semana Alegre returns to Hemisfair for two days of music + celebration, as well as the restart of a new annual Fiesta tradition. This concert event is one of Hemisfair's only fundraisers throughout the year.

To make the concert more immersive, Hemisfair has partnered with Galaxy Productions — the production team behind its Dia de los Muertos celebration — to create a multi-stage music experience.
