Sippin' on a margarita while reading this article? Well, agave is a key ingredient in that drink thanks to the bats that pollinate the agave plant.

It's Pollinator Week here in the Alamo City and we're here to help you celebrate the impact these small creatures have on our ecosystem. From bees, butterflies, bats, beetles, and birds, we got you covered on all things pollen.

What is Pollinator Week?

Pollinator Week is a yearly celebration that spreads awareness about pollinators, their impact on our ecosystem, and how we can help protect them.

What can I do?

We're so glad you asked. You can actually take part in Pollinator Week all year round. Environment Texas — a research and policy center that focuses on protecting the natural landscape for future generations — has some examples of some small actions that carry a big impact.

Cut back on mowing lawns (It's summer, were you really going to? In this heat?)
Sett aside parts of the yard for a pollinator-friendly garden
Avoid the use of pesticides
Purchase milkweed for Monarch Butterflies
San Antonio Water System has resources on creating and to maintain a sustainable garden.

You can also get your friends and family involved with the creation of a community garden. We have a roundup of 5 community gardens around the Alamo City. The San Antonio chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas hosts weekly events to educate the public on how to preserve the natural landscape.

Plus, you'll be able to find fresh plants and gardening resources at your local plant nursery. City Editor Nicholas recommends Rainbow Gardens by the Bandera Pointe shopping center. Not only will you be shopping to help the environment, but you'll also be supporting local businesses — how cool is that?
