Fueled with frustration at the pump? We hate to brake it to you, but it seems like higher-than-normal gas prices are here to stay… for a while.

So, what’s the alternative?

Great question — while San Antonio ranked as “car-dependent” on Walk Score, there’s still plenty of options for us to get around the city.

Public transportation

VIA Metropolitan Transit system is second to none. Getting around SA is made easy with a plethora of bus routes + local rideshare connecting to all parts of the city. Pro tip: download the VIA goMobile+ app to make riding even easier.

The Alamo City loves cycling

There are no shortage of roads, trails + paths for two-wheeling through the city. To begin, the Howard W. Peak Greenway trail system is an 82-mile network of multi-use trails open from sunrise to sunset. The Greenway trails wind through natural landscapes + connect many of the most well-traversed parts of SA — check out the map.

Sightseeing is a breeze on a bike with these ready-made bike tour maps for traveling tourists (or legacy locals). Each route is marked with must-visit destination sites, public restrooms, as well as popular eateries. Don’t want to commit to cycling yet? Rent a pedal-assisted electric bike with BCycle or ride in all weather conditions with a Bike World rental.

Carpooling is cool

If you ever get a little two-tired of biking, try sharing a ride with a coworker. While you’re at it, strike up a conversation and relieve some stress by making our SATX-based artist playlist the soundtrack to your morning commute. Plus, you get the perks of riding on HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes.

Where to find the cheapest gas

Hunt down the best gas prices by using an app like GasBuddy, Gas Guru, or Google Maps. You can also check out a free gas map and plan your next fuel stop.
