Ever since talks of Project Marvel surfaced, one thing's been clear: Public opinion is divided.

With City Council's recent approval of a new financial plan for the sports and entertainment district, we asked our readers to weigh in on whether its a boon or bust for downtown San Antonio.

Note: We added Instagram comments below, but only responses from our official newsletter survey were included in the breakdown of percentages.

25% say "yay"

"San Antonio is being left behind in the sports/entertainment world. Our venues are outdated. When the Frost Bank Center was originally built, there were promises of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment around. That never materialized [...] A venue like that here In San Antonio would be a bigger asset than most people realize." — Larry B.

"Spurs should be playing Downtown. The Alamodome needs to be updated." — Robert S.

"Needs to happen for the future of the city. This coincides with much needed airport expansion that’s happening as well as a public transit system that at least goes from the airport to downtown." — @r0ycethev0ice

55% say "no way"

"There is no space and the last thing we need is another Spurs arena!!!" — Ilo

"We have many critical issues that need to be addressed. That money needs to be spent on improvements and repairs of existing assets." — Betty B.

"I think it will destroy the vibe & beauty of downtown. Visitors come here for the culture & architect. More people DON'T attend sporting events than do. Do we want the visitors that come with sports, or do we want the history buffs, the foodies, the shoppers. Also some of the most vulnerable citizens will lose their homes. San Antonio has more heart than this." — Sandi P.

"There are too many other issues money needs to be spent on, such as housing, street repair, etc." — Marjorie V.

14% say "maybe"

"I truly believe some renovations need to be done to the area but not as extensive as what Project Marvel entails." — Jose R.

"There are areas that need more improvement before we worry about sports/entertainment." — Anonymous

"Project Marvel? Instead, finish project 1604 already." — @k.hdz_

6% say "I'm neutral"
