Did you know that Fort Worth is one of only two cities where the US prints its dollar bills? Aside from the nation's capital, Cowtown is the only home to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), otherwise known as the Western Currency Facility (WCF). And people can tour it — for free.

In 1862, the BEP first opened in Washington, DC. It wasn't until 1991 that the BEP opened its second production facility in Fort Worth. The WCF prints all dollar bills (even two-dollar bills).

The tour is 100% self-guided, except for a short spider press presentation. Visitors can view all production rooms, seeing all steps of currency production. They can also explore two floors of exhibits and interactive displays, featuring traditional engraving tools, a historic pantograph machine, bills throughout history, stories of famous counterfeiters, the most talked-about conspiracy theories + more.

When are tours?

The WCF is located at 9000 Blue Mound Rd. Tours are 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, with the last tour at 2:30 p.m. And there is a catch: Phones, cameras, smart watches + video equipment are prohibited upon entrance, which is why your FTWtoday team couldn't obtain any interior shots of the building. Sorry folks — you just have to see it for yourself.

The WCF by the numbers

Produces $6.7 million worth of currency per hour
Prints more than 13.6 million notes per day
Produced 2.8 billion notes in 2025 -- totalling ~$12.1 billion

Now, for your assignment

Sorry we didn't warn you there would be homework, but this is a fun one. Take out your wallet and grab any bill. Can you find the "FW" printed on the front? If you can, then that means it was printed in Fort Worth.
