The Fourth of July is days away. While planning a home fireworks display may be on the itinerary, not every firework you find on store shelves is legal in Texas.

State Law

We combed through the state laws to break down the details.

Legal
Permissible fireworks are known as 1.4G fireworks. Think: fountains, toy smoke devices, sparklers, poppers/noisemakers, roman candles, and firecrackers that are no bigger than 1.5 inches long or 1/4 inch in diameter.

Illegal

Larger fireworks devices are known as 1.3G fireworks and are non-permissible (think: bottle rockets and sky rockets or any fireworks not approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission). It is a crime to discharge these types of devices within a municipality of 100,000 residents or more.

Age limits
Children under 16 cannot legally buy or use fireworks in Texas.

What about the fireworks displays around Fort Worth? Fireworks remain illegal in the City of Fort Worth, with fines up to $2,000.
Organizers for major events such as Fort Worth Fourth or Kaboom Town obtain permits under state law and must hire a licensed pyrotechnic operator.
