It's a sign, Red River Street just got a little TLC.

Red River Cultural District — which is home to some of Austin's most iconic music venues, like Stubb's and Mohawk — has been fully outfitted with brand new decorative street signs and banners in a partnership with The City of Austin's Economic Development Department.

The signs, designed by Bart Kibbe, are meant to beautify and serve as landmarks to visitors in the district, while the banners read "Defend Red River" and "Where Austin Happens."

Banners feature local musicians, including Stephanie Bergara of Bidi Bidi Banda and Die Spitz. | Photo courtesy Red River Cultural District

You can see the new signs at intersections from East 7th Street to East 12th Street along Red River Street.

Implementation of the signs also coincides with the one-year milestone of the City of Austin’s Red River Area Improvements Project, which brought upgraded sidewalks, solar lighting, pedestrian plazas, and native landscaping.
