Last week, we asked: Should César Chávez Street be renamed? If so, what should it be called? More than 350 of you answered.

Keep in mind: The City of Austin is currently conducting an official survey on the matter. Results will be reviewed by local officials before moving forward.

Now, without further ado… let’s take a look at the outcome of ATXtoday’s poll.

71% of you said César Chávez Street should be renamed.
61% want the new name to be East/West 1st Street, while 21% prefer La Primera Street.

About 18% of respondents had a different idea for the street’s name.

Several people recommended Dolores Huerta Street, honoring the civil rights activist who co-founded the United Farm Workers alongside César Chávez.
Readers also submitted names inspired by other Austin icons, like Eberly Boulevard, Lady Bird Lane, and Stevie Ray Vaughan Street.
Some were inspired by the street’s proximity to the lake, penciling in names like Town Lake Street, First Lake Street, River Street, and Waterfront Drive.

Feeling inspired? It’s not too late to drop your own idea.
