As residents of Middle Tennessee, we aren’t strangers to the long lines at emissions testing sites that typically occur near the end of each month. 🚙

Why does this happen? By state law, vehicles registered in Davidson County have to be tested within 90 days of the registration’s expiration date, which occurs on the first day of the month. Life happens, and people often find themselves waiting in long lines a few days before their plates expire (been there, done that).

Did you know there’s a possible way to avoid this? While it’s recommended to go at the beginning or middle of the month, there’s another option that is less known.

Nashville is home to mobile emissions testing, which is available on various dates throughout the month. Just like normal sites, residents can drive up + have their vehicles inspected without appointments.

The van currently in operation is stationed at 710 Mainstream Dr. and is available from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Tues.-Thurs. this week. See schedules + additional information.

While mobile testing sites’ schedules can be found online, it is recommended that you call ahead to verify a location is running as weather or technical issues can hinder operations.

If you are a resident of Hamilton, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson Counties, you can soon say goodbye to emissions testing altogether. Vehicle inspections will no longer be required after Jan. 14, 2022.
