A new park, dining options, youth programs, and gathering spaces are one step closer to reality in the Western Heights and Beaumont neighborhoods.

The next phase of Transforming Western broke ground this week and will bring several new community amenities by 2027. Here’s what neighbors and visitors can look forward to.

🍽️ A place to eat, gather + learn

The $15 million Connections Building will house two organizations: Real Good Kitchen and Junior Achievement of East Tennessee.

Real Good Kitchen will feature a commercial teaching kitchen for workforce training, including two kitchen lines, a bakery, and stalls for local food pop-ups. The facility will also offer dining options, a grab-and-go concept, and rentable event space for up to 100 people.

Behind the scenes, Junior Achievement of East Tennessee will operate an entrepreneurship and financial literacy education center for middle and high school students.

🛝 A new city park

The $8.5 million Destination Park will stretch across two acres, offering a splash pad, playscape, and pavilion for children of all ages. Managed by Knoxville's Parks and Recreation Department, the park will also include:

A canopy of trees called The Grove
A parking plaza doubling as event space with food truck hookups
An outdoor stage that can be booked for local events
A lawn with an open play space + a corner plaza

🎒 More space for youth programs

The Beaumont Youth Center, operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, is expanding to serve up to 200 children every day — a 200% increase in capacity. The expansion will add a teen center, youth lounge, new classrooms, and a meal prep area to support more after-school and youth programming.

These projects are expected to be completed by 2027, while the overall $26.5 million Transforming Western redevelopment remains on track for completion in 2029. Learn more about the initiative.
