Local studio Scenic City Clay Arts is gearing up to launch its inaugural Clay Makers' Collective, a cohort formed with the intention of breaking down barriers + promoting equality within the world of ceramics.

Applications are now open for this free program that will connect aspiring makers to materials and support over a six-month period. Here is what you need to know before applying.

The program

With the goal to bring ceramic education to folks from diverse backgrounds, students will:

Complete a five-week ceramics education course (projected to begin by mid-February)
Take four monthly ceramic classes, learning handbuilding techniques, trimming + wheel throwing (April through July)
Have full access to SCCA's member studio to practice outside of class
Have all materials and equipment provided + paid for
Showcase work at the end of the program in a collective art show
Have opportunities to continue to work with the studio after course completion

Note: Classes will be on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“We believe in the power of inclusivity to spark creativity and amplify the voices of those traditionally underrepresented in the ceramics community," said Executive Director Madeline Wright.
