Did you know that National Voter Registration Day is on Tuesday, Sept. 19?

To honor this national day that helps folks vote in upcoming elections (like the State and Federal Primary Election on March 5), we're writing up a handy how-to guide on registering locally.

When

There's no time like the present. If you're hoping to vote in the State and Federal Primary Election, you must be registered by Monday, Feb. 5. Why? Folks must be registered at least 30 days before Election Day.

Where

On National Voter Registration Day, head over to East Lake Park for a community event from 4 to 7 p.m. While attending, you will learn more about voter registration, education, and electoral participation + enjoy food and games.

And, of course, you can register to vote or update your voter registration at the same place online— it takes less than five minutes.

If paper is more your style, you can download the mail-in application + send it to the county election commission (700 River Terminal Rd.). Forms can also be picked up at any US post office, city hall, and public library location.

Know that you've registered before, but want to make sure all of your information is updated and correct? Do that here — this tool will also display your polling location.

Bonuses

In the past, some local businesses (Broad Street Ben & Jerry's, we're looking at you) have offered discounts if you're registered on National Voter Registration Day. We'll keep you updated if we hear of any exciting registration perks.

And if discounted ice cream (and, ya know, doing something that can impact yourself and others) isn't a good enough reason to take ~five minutes to register, well, we're fresh out of ideas.
