Color Options
I received the Mistletoe Kisses set, containing four lip oil colors: Petal, Hydrangea, Mixed Berries, and Spiced Rose.
Seen swatched above, the colors range from practically clear (Petal) to a deep, brownish mauve (Spiced Rose). My favorite ended up being Mixed Berries, the third swatch here, which is a similar rosy pink to the lip colors I usually like to wear.
Texture + Efficacy
The first thing I noticed when I applied the lip oil: This stuff tingles!
Personally, I didn’t mind it — I like to know that a product is working. Immediately after applying, my lips looked plumper and fuller, simply because of the product’s deep hydration and high shine. A few minutes later, the actual plumping effect kicked in, and my lips were noticeably fuller.
An unexpected benefit that ended up being my favorite part: These lip oils are super hydrating. It’s that time of year when fall and winter dryness is kicking in for me, and my hands and lips are usually the first to start to show signs of chapping. Any lip dryness I had completely went away when I used tarte’s lip oils, a benefit that I ended up appreciating even more than the plumping effect.
The oil is definitely shiny and a little bit sticky, very similar to a gloss. While I wouldn’t wear it outside on a windy day (hair sticking to lip gloss is a pet peeve of mine), it strikes a really great balance between a shiny gloss and nourishing oil.
The product also lasts a really long time, staying put for several hours without losing its shine.
Who this product is good for
If lip fullness is a concern of yours, tarte’s lip oils are worth trying out. I’d also recommend them to people who struggle with winter dryness, as they’re deeply hydrating and prevented my lips from chapping all day.
