The next time you’re strolling, running, or cycling through Unity Park, you’ll see a new installation along the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Path to Progress — located near the ongoing construction of the Honor Tower — tells the history of the land where Unity Park sits today.

As you stop to read the markers, you’ll learn about:

The Reedy River’s role in the early development and textile boom
How the railroads continued Greenville’s growth + gave the Swamp Rabbit its nickname
The establishment of the West Greenville and Southernside communities
The history of Meadowbrook + Mayberry, the segregated parks that sat on this land
The decades-long process to make Unity Park a reality

As for the ongoing construction at the park, work continues on Mayberry Field + signage says Honor Tower will open in summer 2025.
