This one is for all of our friends out there that have the wisdom of the ages but are still looking to learn something new. 🧠

If you’re living your best retirement life and are looking for a safe way to conquer your New Year’s resolution of learning how to knit your own sweater or incorporating meditation into your daily routine or ordering your own gelato in Italian once we can all travel again, look no further than the classes offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Furman University.

OLLI at Furman University was started back in 1993 for and by retirees (primarily those 55 and up) and has grown over the last 25+ years from 65 to 2,500 members. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has pivoted to teach 100% of their winter 2021 classes live via Zoom. (If you don’t have a clue how to use Zoom, not to worry. OLLI volunteers will be hosting Zoom orientations for anyone not familiar with the platform and working with individuals one-on-one to solve any more specific tech issues.)

All OLLI classes are taught by experienced OLLI members, other community experts, or Furman University faculty. In fact, much of OLLI’s staff is volunteers who work in the office (during non-COVID times), create and facilitate social events, and much more. The classes are also pretty affordable – all students pay a $50 membership fee for the academic year and then each 8-week course is $55. There are also Thursday Lunch Book Clubs, Lunch & Learn Tuesdays, Friday Bonus Trips & Events, and Special Interest Groups.

And make sure you get to it, because classes start on Monday. #ProTip: This is also a great way to socialize with family and friends you might be missing that live out of town. (Even though these classes are designed for those 55 and up, OLLI welcomes learners of all ages.)
