It’s almost June and we’re ready for weekends at the lake + summer outdoor concerts. In case you were super busy this month taking vacays or getting through the end of the school year, we’ve rounded up our top stories from May to fill you in.

1️⃣ City park’s new name… and 15 new pictures:

That new city park you’ve been hearing about since 2004 (sometimes referred to as City Park, Meadowbrook Park, and/or Mayberry Park) is finally becoming a reality– and it’s got an official name: Unity Park. Click here to read about the 60+ acres of land, observation tower, wetland restoration, + more.

2️⃣ 2 ingredients. 1,000 variations. 1 champion:

A GVLtoday fave (because who doesn’t love shrimp + grits?). We asked y’all where to find the best in the Upstate and you gave us some seriously great responses. Read more about where you can grab the tasty dish here.

3️⃣ Your guide to (S)tand (U)p (P)addleboarding in GVL:

Our readers we’re so hyped about this one that they took time out of their Memorial Day to check out our guide to paddleboarding. Click here to learn more + make the most of your summer afternoons. Your toned arms will thank you.

4️⃣ 10+ movies filmed in S.C.:

We alllll know how stunning our state is, but what you may not know is that we’re actually star-struck. We even have our own Hollywood Hill (we’re looking at you, Paris Mountain). South Carolina has been the backdrop for some pretty famous movies, and we rounded up a few of our faves to give y’all the behind the scenes look at the cinematic magic. Click here for the blockbusters.

5️⃣ April showers bring May flowers:

GVLtoday loves our local small businesses (and it looks like y’all do too). We pulled some of the best events going on to celebrate Small Business Week + asked what small biz you’d hate to see leave. Check it out here.
