The day has finally arrived, GVL. Lewis Barbecue has an official opening date: Wed., Sept. 14 at 11 a.m.

The Charleston restaurant’s second location, located in the former Tommy’s Ham House (214 Rutherford St.), will be open Wed.-Sat. (11 a.m.-10 p.m.) + Sun. (11 a.m.-9 p.m.), with daily service coming later this fall.

Here’s what you can expect from Greenville’s newest barbecue joint:

The space
The ~10,000-sqft renovated space, designed by Charleston interior designer Betsy Berry of B. Berry Interiors and Greenville's LMG Architects (which also designed other GVL restaurants like Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack + Kitchen Sync) will feature counter service with both inside + outside seating and a large bar.

The design is inspired by Lewis Barbecue owner + pitmaster John Lewis' upbringing on the West Texas border, but also pays homage to Tommy's Ham House and features elements by local makers, like custom metal partitions by OK Goods' Daniel Marinelli.

The bites + beverages
Get ready to feast on Central Texas-inspired barbecue, like…

Cut-to-order meats — like pitmaster John Lewis’ legendary brisket
Smoked meats — like pulled pork and Texas hot guts
Sides — like creamy potato salad, cowboy pinto beans, and green chile corn pudding
Sandwiches — like El Sancho and sliced turkey breast
Daily specials — like chicken fried steak and prime rib dinner
Desserts — like banana pudding and chocolate dirt pie
Drinks — like beer, wine, and cocktails (we're hoping the Ranchwater lands on the GVL menu)
