Happy graduation season, GVL + the Upstate. In honor of all the local graduates — whether they’re practicing their stage walk for this weekend or recently moved their tassel from right to left, we took to social media to ask our followers what advice and well wishes they had for the grads.

Here were some of the responses we got + some advice of our own:

“Read the book ‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Be impeccable with your word.

Don’t take anything personally.

Don’t make assumptions.

Always do your best (with the first three).

Just read it. ” — Ginny M.

“Take more risks.” — Tod I.

“Do the simple things in life, well, and then let time take its course. Be honest, show up on time, be dependable, treat people well, listen more than you speak...stuff like that.” — Ivan M.

“Start a retirement account NOW.” — Jeff B.

“Think bigger!” — John W.

“Travel travel travel. See the world and experience other cultures.” — Ken P.

“Don't be afraid to change course. You may start your first job thinking it's your forever career, but if you decide it isn't, that's okay. Keep chasing your goals and dreams even if they shift over time. You'll find yourself exactly where you belong, and from my experience, networking will play a key role in getting there.” — City Editor Danielle

“Be confident in what you have achieved and don’t shy away from owning your success. Take credit where credit is due, but also make sure to give credit where it’s earned. Celebrate your wins and never stop learning from your mistakes.” — City Editor Kyle

Congratulations, Class of 2022.
