One of the things I love most about writing GVLtoday is celebrating the local businesses that make our city unique. It was hard to narrow down this list, but in honor of our 10th anniversary coming up on July 1, we wanted to celebrate the growth of 10 Greenville businesses over the past decade.

Methodical Coffee

Methodical Coffee opened its first location (the one on Main Street) on Feb. 11, 2015. Since then, they’ve added locations at Stone’s Point and The Commons, expanded to Columbia’s BullStreet District (hey, COLAtoday), and added bakery operations. They also operate a 39,500-sqft roasting facility in Travelers Rest.

A bowl of shrimp and grits at Soby's. The bowl is white on a wooden table, with a blurred background showing other diners, wine glasses, and desserts. We are low and close to the bowl. — Soby's is now Michelin recommended and won a Wine Spectator's Grand Award. | Photo by GVLtoday

Table 301

Table 301 is always growing and changing. From Soby’s opening nearly 30 years ago on Main Street, the hospitality group has opened (and sold) several restaurant concepts. Up next: We can’t wait to try Enlō.

Comal 864

In the early days of GVLtoday, Chef Dayna Lee-Márquez was moving to Greenville from Texas. She began popping up with her tacos at The Whale, but now you’re lucky to find a seat at the James Beard semifinalist’s restaurant on West Antrim.

M. Judson

This fan-favorite downtown bookstore opened its doors in July of 2015, and 11 years later just opened a second location in Downtown Fountain Inn. The spot has also grown its events calendar, rarely having a night off from an author event.

Gather GVL

Gather GVL didn’t open until GVLtoday was four years into production, but we’d be remiss not to highlight its recent expansion to Columbia and its forthcoming location in Mount Pleasant, SC (hey, CHStoday).

Have you been to Papi's Kitchen yet? | Photos by GVLtoday

Papi’s Tacos

When GVLtoday started, Papi’s was a Table 301 restaurant. Now, it operates three concepts independently: Papi’s Tacos in Riverplace, Papi’s Kitchen in the West End, and its food truck that you can find at local events (including the Saturday Market).

Sidewall Pizza Company

Sidewall Pizza opened its second location in 2016, and now it has four spots plus a thriving bakery with some of the best desserts in the Upstate.

The 05

You probably had your first Brussels sprouts salad in 2016 when The 05 opened its doors. Now, the restaurant has expanded to The 07 (on Laurens), The one 5 (at Hartness), and Abyss.

The Commons — Who remembers this before? | Photo by GVLtoday

The Commons

This food hall along the Swamp Rabbit Trail was first announced in 2015 and opened its doors in 2019. Since then, it has opened phase two with even more local restaurants.
