We’re always curious where the top realtors in Columbia live – they’re the experts on neighborhoods, after all. Terri Irvin, REALTOR® at The Moore Company, lives in the Heathwood neighborhood downtown (between Devine St. + Trenholm Rd.), and it’s also one of her favorite neighborhoods to sell, for its well-established charm + accessibility. Here’s why:

1. You actually don’t have to be a millionaire to live here. A common misconception about the Heathwood neighborhood is that it’s all million dollar homes – but you can actually find homes in the high 200s + low 300s. There’s something for everyone; in all price ranges – you’ll find a 300K home around the corner from a 1.5M home.

2. You can buy new construction in an old neighborhood. Many people want to live in the beautiful, well-established neighborhoods of Cola – but don’t necessarily want the issues that often come with old homes. Heathwood is the best of both worlds. In the last 10 years, people have torn down some old, faulty homes + built new construction – so you can get a brand-new home with none of the sloping floors + bathrooms in need of a remodel – and also get a beautiful, big lot with huge, old trees: a big plus for a lot of homebuyers.

Heathwood Circle is one of the best streets in Columbia. Fun fact: Heathwood Hall private school used to be on Heathwood Cir., and you can still see some of the old columns that they’ve preserved.

3. It’s so convenient. Heathwood is right in the heart of Columbia: 2 min. to UofSC; 2 min. to Devine St.; a couple of min. to Forest Acres.

4. It’s family-friendly, safe + walkable. There are lots of churches (with daycares) that you can walk to; parks within walking distance like Heathwood Park + Mays Park; and people are always out walking their dogs + riding their bikes. You also get a choice of top Richland One schools: Satchel Ford/Brennan Elementary, Crayton Middle School + Dreher/A.C. Flora High Schools.

“Heathwood is a beautiful, established community. My husband and I have lived here for years; we actually moved right across the street from where he grew up as a child. We love this neighborhood, and I love finding homes here for clients,” says Terri.
