It’s time to run for the turtles, Charleston. The South Carolina Aquarium Turtle Trek 5K, a sunset beach run and kids fun run, is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 15 at Isle of Palms County Park.

Its mission: To support the South Carolina Aquarium in caring for sick and injured sea turtles undergoing rehabilitation in the Sea Turtle Care Center™. Sea turtles arrive at the Care Center suffering from a variety of ailments, like predation and boat strike wounds, entanglement, and other injuries.

The center’s dedicated animal care team provides individual treatment plans and rehabilitative care for each patient in the hopes they can be released and go on to become reproductive members of their species.

To date, the Care Center has released more than 350 sea turtles — and with your support, even more can complete the journey home.

Want to help? Grab some friends, join a team, and register to run for the turtles ($40 for adults; $20 for the kids fun run). Bonus: Runners can also participate remotely.

The South Carolina Aquarium Turtle Trek 5K is presented by Publix Super Markets Charities and Crews Subaru of Charleston.*
