Charleston has nothing but heart eyes for Southern comfort food, golden hours spent on the beach, and historic architecture. But today, we’re talking about a specific kind of love.

Knowing your love language can help you celebrate the most romantic day of the year (hello, Valentine’s Day). Here are our recommendations for activities + places around Charleston to add to your Valentine’s Day agenda based on your love language.

Receiving Gifts

If you think of gifts as symbolic of love and affection, you’re in luck. There’s no shortage of shopping in the Lowcountry. Pick out something for the artisan lover at Candlefish, hunt for handmade treasures at Dee Ruel, or support your diehard local with Charleston swag from the Charleston City Market.

Acts of Service

If the way you express your love is by doing helpful things for others (think: cleaning with the dishes, opening doors, or running errands), we suggest a volunteering date to satisfy that giving heart. You can check out our list of 40+ ways to give back in Charleston for all kinds of opportunities to lend a helping hand.

Physical Touch

If you like nothing more than a good hug from a loved one or cuddling on the couch with a glass of wine, we suggest taking a hands-on drawing, painting, or yoga class at Redux Contemporary Art Center.

Words of Affirmation

If you are someone who loves verbal or written compliments expressing appreciation, tune into a reading or seminar at the Charleston Poetry Society and take notes, or pick out some SAS-E Ink stationery to pen a thoughtful letter.

Quality Time

If you like to express affection through a display of your undivided attention, we recommend a stroll through The Charleston Museum, along the Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site self-guided history trail, or around Brookgreen Gardens.
