Did you know that the Charleston County Government is collaborating with Green Energy Biofuel to provide cooking oil disposal containers at 8 county-operated convenience centers?

The free service to citizens is at no cost to Charleston County through its partnership with Green Energy Biofuel.

Green Energy Biofuel is an SC-based alternative fuels company that refines and recycles used cooking oil and other food products from kitchens + food manufacturers — resulting in a biodiesel product.

What’s considered improper disposal of cooking oil?

Sewer drains
Kitchen drains
Ditches
Anything that leads to our waterways

As oil floats on the surface of water, it acts as a barrier preventing the transfer of oxygen to the water. These oils never safely dissolve in water. The oils are either removed by humans, settle onto wildlife or plants, or bio-degrade after many years into toxic by-products.
