Year-round options to play America's fastest growing sport in Portland are, well, growing. The newest facility, by name and by impact, is big. Introducing Jumbo's Pickleball, which opens Friday, Feb. 23 just off of Highway 26 in Beaverton.

It's the "first indoor multi-court gym fully dedicated to pickleball on the west side of town" and a boon for players who hesitate to commute over the river to The People's Courts.

“Something special has taken root with pickleball — it’s social, really easy to learn, accessible to audiences of all age ranges and skill levels, and a great workout,” said Roshan Fernando, co-owner of Jumbo’s Pickleball. “We’re really excited to be a part of this pickleball community.” The business is named in honor of Roshan's father, whose nickname growing up in Sri Lanka was Jumbo.

The nine true-bounce courts are of the quality used in major tournaments, with state-of-the-art indirect lighting, plus a lounge with snacks and beverages and a pro shop with a demo court to test any equipment before you buy.

Members and non-members can make reservations to play via the app or website. Guests are required to wear official, non-marking court shoes — that means no running or cross-training shoes. If you're new to the game, there is also a limited selection of shoes, paddles, and balls that staff can help you rent.

“We have a great team in place to welcome pickleball players of all skill levels,” said Nichole Klaes, Jumbo’s operations director. “Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been playing for years, we have a variety of hosted play options, games and lessons and clinics for everyone as they continue their pickleball journey.”

Jumbo’s Pickleball is open seven days a week, 7 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday-Sunday.
