Happy Halloween, y’all, Erin here. 🙋‍♀️I confess, I’m not usually one for scary stuff, but I do enjoy a good sci-fi thriller now and then and one of my favorite shows to binge is “Stranger Things.” (For last minute costume ideas from the Upside Down, click here.)

DYK: The creators of the popular Netflix show Stranger Things — Matt + Ross Duffer, a.k.a. the Duffer Brothers — were born right here in the Triangle. The Durhamites (they’re also identical twins) attended Charles E. Jordan High School before going to college at Chapman University in Southern California, where they studied film and media arts.

The Stranger Things series, which now has 3 seasons available for streaming (click here if you need to catch up), pays homage to the Duffers’ childhood growing up in the ‘80s — and even though the show takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the duo drops in a lot of little shoutouts to their hometown and state. (They even dropped an Easter egg for their old neighbor, Mr. McCorkle in season 2.) From street names + county lines to bodies of water, here’s a list of all the Durham references we’ve found:

Season 1

Season 2

Season 3

Bullock’s BBQ

Although the show currently films in Atlanta (for tax reasons, apparently) the Duffer Brothers say they’re open to potentially filming in the Triangle in future. In an interview with ABC News 17, Matt said, “It would be a dream to shoot up there at some point. I feel like it’s going to happen.” We’ll be here like Dustin waiting on Suzie to answer the walkie.
