The City of Raleigh is looking to widen Six Forks Road + is asking for public input on the project.

The project will help improve mobility + connectivity for pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic between Rowan Street and Lynn Road — thus making it a complete street. Complete streets accommodate all types of transportation making city streets safer for users.

Other proposed improvements include widening the road to accommodate 3 lanes of travel in each direction, a separated bike lane, signal improvements, transit stops, green stormwater infrastructure, landscaping + other amenities.

The Six Forks Road Improvement Project is a result of the city's Six Forks Corridor Study, which the city council adopted in 2018. The study helped determine the needs of Six Forks Road users and guide design concepts.

Project leaders are hosting a virtual open house through Sun., Oct. 17. Community members can watch a video on the key aspects of the The Six Forks Road Improvement Project, and provide the city with feedback on lane widths, speed limits, public art, and more.

There will also be a live Q+A session tonight, Oct. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. Citizens can learn more about the project and ask general design questions.

If you’re not able to attend, the Q+A session will be recorded and posted online at a later time. Questions can also be submitted to the project’s comment form and through the public engagement portal.
