Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you’re new to the city — Raleigh has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Allow us to reintroduce the City of Oaks.

Raleigh by the numbers:

Total population: 469,698
Total housing units: 206,328
- Owner: 51%
- Renter: 49%
Median Household Income: $69,720

How do we know this? Thanks to a law dating back to 1790, we participate in the Census count every 10 years to survey the population.

Previous Census data showed that, from 2010 to 2020, Raleigh’s population increased by approximately 20.91% and the City of Oaks only continues to grow.

The most recent data released shows that in 2021, Wake County experienced an increase in population of about 1.8%, which is 1,150,204 people (or about 19x the amount of people who can fit into Carter-Finley Stadium).

The data also revealed that Raleigh has the 17-highest home values in the US. Additionally, Raleigh added 23.5% more housing units in the last decade.

Median single-family home prices across the Triangle:

Raleigh | $386,000 median listing price | 24.5% increase
Durham | $386,000 median listing price | 35.3% increase
Chapel Hill | $555,000 median listing price | 14.4% increase

Where are the home-owners at? In North Carolina, nearly 65.7% of the total housing units are owned + the median monthly mortgage cost is $1,328. Here’s what the majority of owners are paying:

407,073 pay $500-$999
565,255 pay $1,000-$1,499
331,380 pay $1,500-$1,999
