Located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, William Peace University offers courses focused on providing an immersive learning experience with skill-developing core curriculum + small class sizes. This focus opens the door to a variety of creative courses that give both first-time college students and working adults real-world, career-ready skills.

Here are five interesting courses we’d take if we attended WPU:

Advanced Graphic Design (COM 417)

WPU’s Interactive Design program allows students to take a creative, technological, and experiential approach when solving complex design problems. The advanced graphic design course is the starting point for a career in this field.

This past spring, students in COM 417 created a virtual reality tour of the campus for an Oculus headset. In the tour, users will feel as if they’re in the WPU Welcome Center. They can pick up things, watch videos, and read more about attending. 💻

Introduction to Criminal Justice (CRJ 201)

Perhaps you see yourself as an FBI agent, serving your community as a police officer, or maybe becoming a lawyer. If so, William Peace University’s criminal justice program can help you get there.

Available to both undergraduates and working adults, the program uses immersive learning, like the Hunt-a-Killer game in CRJ 201, to help students explore all aspects of the discipline — including the criminal justice system, forensic science, social work, juvenile justice, social sciences + more. 🔍

Business Policy (BSA 499)

While categorized as a Business Core Course, Business Policy is a class students in the School of Professional Studies (WPU’s accelerated hybrid program) also often take. The class uses a collaborative web-based simulation game, The Business Strategy Game (BSG), to learn balancing the opportunities and risks in a global business environment.

During a recent BSG, students were divided into teams and assigned to run an athletic footwear company in head-to-head competition against companies run by other students. Companies competed in a global market arena, selling branded and private-label athletic footwear in four geographic regions — Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. 👟

Exercise Testing and Prescription (ESS 230)

This class is a part of two majors: Exercise and Sport Science and Sport and Fitness Studies. Students use WPU’s new state-of-the-art exercise lab to learn and carry-out fitness assessments (think: cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, functional movement, body composition, and muscular strength and endurance) for both general and special populations.

After conducting these assessments, students analyze the data and help develop individualized exercise plans to cater to the needs of prospective healthy clients and clients with comorbidities. 💪

Creating the Documentary (COM 475)

In this class, students produce their own high-quality, non-fiction documentaries about social and/or cultural issues of the community. Students explore documentary-making through the use of different video + audio equipment. They’re encouraged to gather interviews, record video, and edit it into a film.

The best documentaries are shown each year during Showcase, an annual cross-campus event that highlights the amazing projects + research of WPU students. 📹
