Midtown is getting slimy. Sloomoo Institute opened its flagship location at the Metropolitan, welcoming guests of all ages to play at their indoor destination filled with 500 gallons of slime.

Fun fact: The containers of slime were made in Wilmington, NC.

"I reconnected with joy — and had my first genuine brain break — after playing with a friend's homemade slime. So I started using slime for my own healing," Sloomoo co-founder Karen Robinovitz told CLTtoday. "My co-founder Sara's daughters came together as equals over slime; it was an incredible equalizer."

"That is how we started Sloomoo; plus, we hire neurodiverse adults, and we give back to mental health, and that's a big part of our mission," echoed co-founder Sara Schiller.

The 7,500-sqft playground is packed with immersive attractions, like the world’s largest DIY slime bar, glow-in-the-dark music zones, and a slime waterfall, where children and families can get messy. Don't worry, ponchos are available to keep your clothes clean.

Exclusive to Charlotte, visitors are immediately welcomed with colorful tubs of slime to decorate the "sloomoo and repeat" wall and play in an interactive videoscape that mimics a lava lamp.

"This is something for everyone, not just children. It's a message to say 'it's okay to let go and have fun.' What inspired all the different scents and all the different textures? Joy." said Robinovitz.

Editor Maria, here. One of my favorite parts about visiting Sloomoo was creating my own custom slime. The DIY slime bar features eight textures, 60 scents, and 100+ charms. Plus, each slime also contains lotion, so your skin will stay soft during playtime.

Bonus: For the readers in the family, guests can learn about Sloomoo's fictional origins via a graphic novel written by the author of Disney's "Descendants."
