There’s no getting around it: It’s hot, Charlotte. But not as hot as Aug. 10, 2007, when one of Charlotte's hottest days on record took place, hitting 104°.

The day the heat set records

That wasn't the first time Charlotte hit 104°. It's happened several times:

September 6, 1954
August 9 + 10, 2007
June 29 + 30, 2012
July 1, 2012

The closest we’ve come to that temperature in the past few weeks was when temperatures got to 101° on July 4, with the heat index pushing 108°.

What the headlines read

So, what else was going on in Charlotte on the hottest days on record? Looking back, the city's biggest headlines included the Panthers' exhibition game against the New York Giants, Central Piedmont Community College launched its Middle College program, and a possible reschedule of South Carolina's GOP primary.

Of course, the big talker was the record-breaking heat, reporting high energy usage, three consecutive 100-degree days, and low lake levels.

How to weather the weather today

OK, so we’re not breaking records (yet), but that doesn’t mean braving this weather is easy. Thankfully, we have several museums to explore, pools to keep you cool, and cool treats to indulge in.
